Mobile Computing and Iot
Mobile Computing
Mobile Computing allows transmission of data, voice, and video via a computer or any other wireless-enabled device without having to be connected to a physical link.
Features of Mobile Computing
- It is a portable device that can be used during mobility.
- Includes mobile communication, mobile hardware, and mobile software.
- Has the ability to be digitally connected for the purpose of communication.
- Has the ability to gather and reposnd to real or simulated data unique to a current location, environment, or time.
- Includes GPS receiver for navigation.
Advantage of Mobile Compuing:
- It enables users to work from any location at any time.
- It has made research easier.
- It supports cloud computing.
- It saves time for accessing data and information.
Disadvantage of Mobile Computing:
- It has security concerns.
- Mobile technology reqyires faster and quality connectivity services.
- Extensive use of mobile devices results in health problems.
Internet of Things (IoT)
Connection of billions of devices like electronics, sensors, gateways, actuators over a wireless network can be referred to as IoT. Connecting up all different objects and adding sensors to them adds a level of digital intelligence to devices that would be otherwise dumb, enabling them to communicate real-time data without involving a human being.
Driverless trucks, auto-pilot airplanes, a light bulb with a sensor to the smartphones are a few examples of IoT.
Advantages of IoT
- It automates tasks and helps to improve the quality of a business’s services and reduces the need for human intervention.
- Helps to operate business operations more efficiently, better understand customers to deliver enhanced customer service.
- Provides improved communication between connected electronic devices.
- Transferring data packets over a connected network saves time, effort, and money.
- It has the ability to access information from anywhere at any time on any device.
Disadvantages of IoT
- As the number of connected devices increases and more information is shared between devices, the chances of the system being attacked also increases.
- Organizations may eventually have to deal with massive number of IoT devices, and collecting and managing the data from all those devices will be challenging.
- If there’s a bug in the system, every connected device will likely become corrupted.
- Since there’s no international standard of compatibility for IoT, it’s difficult for devices from different manufactures to communicate with each other.
